It is difficult to know what to give anyone for a gift, let alone someone who seems to already have everything. We are a society that has largely gone the way of the gift card and subsequently, our gift giving has continued to become less and less personal. For close family and friends it can still make all the difference in the world to pick out a gift that they are likely to truly love – a gift that will last for many years to come and remind them of you each and every time they look at it. Clocks, while they may not be the first thing to pop to mind when it comes to gift giving, can actually make quite lovely, thoughtful, and useful gifts.
Clocks are hardly just the small, metal structures that sit on our nightstands – waking us up in the mornings and playing the radio and CDs on command. Rather, clocks come in all types of designs and are meant for all types of applications; the mantel clock that sits atop a beautiful fireplace, the wall clock that hangs in our kitchens or family room – as much a piece of beloved furniture as anything else in the home, or the stately grandfather clock that takes up residence in the dining room or entranceway – a piece of art as much as a family heirloom.
Here’s the long and short of it: although we certainly need them, although we may want them, and although they may make a lovely addition to the décor already in place in our home, very few people actually follow through with buying themselves clocks. That, in a nutshell, is what makes them such spectacular gifts. They are wanted, they are desired, but they are rarely purchased for one’s own use. Mostly because good clocks are considered a luxury item.
Buying a clock of any variety for a loved one or friend means that they will have something they can use to infuse their home with style, something that is both functional and beautiful, and something that can very easily become a family heirloom passed down from generation to generation. And what greater gift is that?

Decorating a child’s bedroom can be challenging to say the least. There is the child’s taste to consider – especially if they are on the older side, as well as your desire to stay within a design that is in keeping with the rest of the home. One of the ways that decorators can accomplish both goals is through the placement of key elements in the room that will speak to the child’s personal tastes and still fit nicely with the design of the home.
Clocks are a much overlooked but still effective element for use in home decorating. When you consider how much a country styled clock can change the look of the room that has been styled in a conventional format, or how an antique inspired wall clock may look out of place in a country kitchen, you begin to get a sense of how much impact even the smallest pieces can have in a home.
By bringing a well chosen clock into a child’s bedroom you are offering the child a functional piece that can help them keep time. For younger children this is especially important as they learn to tell time on their own; for older children it offers a more traditional alternative to atomic clocks that generally sit on nightstands, or the clock keeping time on their cell phones or computers.
Further, even the smallest clock such as a mantel clock set on a dresser can elevate the room design, finishing it off and giving it a hint of glamour and sophistication. Just because it’s a child’s room doesn’t meant that it shouldn’t have as much appeal as any other room in the home.

We have very much become a society dependent on technology for even the simplest of things. Telling time, for example, while it used to be kept by pocket and wristwatches, is now kept by cell phones, personal organizers, and computers. While we may have once asked a stranger for the time only to wait until they checked their watch, today we wait for them to simply glance at the phone that is unquestionably in their hand. While all of these technological advancements have surely made life much easier, they have also come at a price. There is value and validity to traditional clocks and more and more people are recognizing that advancements in technology do not necessarily mean that tradition has to go out the window.
While cell phones may be the time telling method of choice while we’re out and about, it falls far short of sophistication on the home front. Outfitting a home with clocks of all designs allows us to honor tradition and permeate our home with the comforting tick-tock of the clock and, in some cases, the melody of the hour. Traditional clocks are more than just accessories or pieces of furniture – they engage many of our senses and become almost like the heartbeat of the home.
Next time you are looking for something unique for your home – something that packs a big design punch in a small design, look to reputable online clock dealers such as 1-800-4CLOCKS that can help you find the clock that makes the most sense for your space and budget. Through comprehensive websites offered by such suppliers, consumers have access to affordable clocks made by high-end clock manufacturers.

Homeowners that put their heart and soul into their homes, tend – across the board – to leave one room in the home to the very last in terms of renovation and décor – their bedroom. It seems as though every other room in the house takes precedence when it comes to creating an intimate, warm, stylish, and functional living space – including kids’ bedrooms. How many people do you know have homes in which even their children’s rooms are done to the nines while their bedroom remains a catch-all storage facility with literally no design or aesthetic appeal? It’s far more people than any of us would like to admit – ourselves included.
Our bedrooms are calling and they are demanding some attention. It’s time to get back in the bedroom and begin designing a space that captures our personality and all that is important to us. Of course part of this redesign very often requires paint, window treatments, flooring, and furniture. But the pieces that are placed in the room in terms of design elements are equally important. Clocks, in this capacity, can take a well designed room to the next level in terms of style and sophistication.
A beautiful wall clock hung in a dressing area can lend an air of sophistication to the space; a mantel clock that is placed on a dresser can finish the piece off in way in which you may not have thought, or a grandmother clock in a corner of a bedroom – for larger rooms – may be just the thing you need to fill the space elegantly.
Our bedroom, while it is our personal space, is also a part of our home. It is important to pay it the same attention that we do to the other rooms in the house. By adding a well chosen clock to the room’s décor, homeowners can add an elegant addition that can elevate the style of the room considerably.

The spring is just about on the horizon – waiting to replace the winter’s chilling winds and bare trees with warmer breezes and new buds. As humans we have many rituals associated with the coming of the spring season; emerging from our winter cocoon and airing out our homes for the arrival of the warmer months. Spring cleaning is one of our many traditions associated with the leaving of winter and the coming of spring. We pull apart our rooms, rotate wardrobes, clean curtains, dust baseboards, move furniture, and basically deep clean our personal space. In the midst of all this attention to detail we are sure to notice the clocks in our home – those that sit on mantels, stand in corners, or alert us to the time from our bedroom nightstands.
Clocks deserve a little spring cleaning of their own in the way of a gentle dusting and a wipe down of the exterior. After all, they’ve been gathering dust for some time now and the accumulation of dust can have an impact on the time telling capabilities of a clock. This spring, when you’re going over the rest of your home with a fine toothed comb be sure to turn your attention to your clocks by:
* Moving mantel clocks to dust under and around them. Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the face of the glass face of the clock and along the sides. If the glass face opens you can go ahead and gently dust inside the face of the clock taking care not to touch the actual hands of the clock.
* Gently removing wall clocks from their spot in order to perform the same gentle cleaning.
* Dusting the outside of grandfather clocks or grandmother clocks. Any additional service should be done by a professional in order to preserve the integrity of the clocks.

Spring is a time of reinvention – a time when anything is possible. With the coming of a new season and the lifting of the cold air that has blanketed most of our homes, we become reawakened with the thought of being able to get outside and enjoy milder weather. Spring seems to mark a time for home improvements for exactly this reason; it is a chance to have a fresh start. When it comes to home décor it may be time to take an inventory of what is working in the home and what is not; and what may make a great new addition to a room. When it comes to clocks, people underestimate the perfect combination of form and function that these pieces can bring to a room – and a home.
This spring take a walk around your home and make sure that there is at least one clock in each of your rooms. While most of us have a digital clock on our microwaves and television sets, they pale in comparison to the elegance and sophistication offered by more traditional clocks such as wall clocks, mantel clocks, atomic clocks, and even grandfather clocks and grandmother clocks.
An addition of a mantel clock atop a fireplace can offer family members and visitors a quick way to tell the time, surely; but it will also frame a fireplace and infuse a special sophistication to the room. A wall clock can be glanced at as busy family members rush to get out the door for work and school; but its gentle tick-tock will also become ingrained in the sound of the home. The grandfather clock in the formal living room anchors a corner and really lends a statuesque air of sophistication; but its melody will also always remind children of home.

Buying a first home is an exciting – and well, terrifying – experience. There is nothing better than the feeling of independence that comes with owning your own home and for young people who are just starting out this first experience can mark their first foray into the real world on a number of different levels. Of course there are many things to consider with the purchase of a first home, financial considerations notwithstanding. But when the dust clears and the new homeowners find themselves standing in the middle of their new place, it becomes all about decorating. White walls and non-descript design needs to be transformed into a home that says something about the people that live there. And one of the ways that new homeowners can infuse their own personality into their new home is through the use of clocks.
When most people think of a clock they think of a functional piece that is used to tell the time. And this is true. But it is not the only thing that is true about clocks. Modern clocks are as much pieces of furniture as they are time telling devices. Made in a variety of styles including contemporary, traditional, antique-inspired, country, and the like, clocks can be an affordable way to add style to any room in a new home.
*Try a mantel clock on a fireplace. With just this small addition the entire face of the fireplace can be transformed.
*Hang a wall clock in an entranceway where it can add sophistication and its melody can welcome visitors. Or try a wall clock in a dining room where you wish to add an air of formality.
*Try some unique atomic clocks in a bedroom where fun additions can really liven up the room.

For most of us, when we go to work we go there for a specific purpose – to do our jobs to the best of our ability and then go home as soon as possible. But for another large portion of the population work is home on a number of levels; they may spend as much time in their office as they do at home. This is especially true for business owners that are spending a large portion of their time either trying to get a new business off the ground or continuing to foster the success of an existing business. Either way, for anyone who spends a significant amount of time at work, there is no reason for an office to be a blank, utilitarian space that says nothing about the person who works there. With the addition of a few elements – family photos, plants, and a beautiful clock – an office can be transformed as a welcoming and comfortable space.
Clocks are all over offices for a number of reasons. For one, it is important for employees and visitors to be able to tell the time at a glance. For another, clocks are an affordable way to lend an air of sophistication to a lobby area, meeting room, and the like. Wall clocks are especially popular in offices – although they tend to be the plainer, round faced versions.
But individual employees or business owners – simply by including a mantel clock on their desk that best reflects their style – contemporary, traditional, etc. – can make their office their own.

When it comes to decorating our homes, the choices that we make are entirely personal; meant to reflect our own style and personality. When people ordinarily think of decorating a home they think of wall paint, furniture, flooring, and the small details that make a house a home. Today’s consuming public is used to a high level of convenience, afforded to them by the Internet. The conventional meaning for “legwork” – referring to the effort and research that shoppers would traditionally put into finding the perfect product is now work that is done on a virtual – rather than physical – level. Shopping has become something that is done from a work or home computer; with the click of a few keys consumers can compare and contrast similar products in terms of quality, performance, and price. Even products for which consumers may not expect to be able to shop online are readily available; such as clocks.
Clocks are something to which people rarely give much thought – until they are in the market to buy one. Hanging from our walls, sitting atop our mantels, standing in the corners of our rooms, or perching on the edge of a bedroom nightstand, clocks are something that we take for granted in terms of their functionality. But shopping for clocks becomes more than just finding a functional clock – it becomes about finding a clock that works with the overall design of the home; something that can be accomplished online.
Suppliers such as 1-800-4CLOCKS that offer online services understand the importance of offering high quality products in a way that is most convenient and acceptable for modern consumers. Customers can logon and find clocks of all types – mantel clocks, wall clocks, atomic clocks, grandfather clocks, and styles – contemporary, traditional, antique – from the comfort of their home. By having this convenient service, clock manufacturers such as 1-800-4CLOCKS allow shoppers to take the time to examine the many styles of clocks available to them and decide what will work best for their home.
