Clocks: Unique Features in a Library

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

While most of us consider the library to be that large facility in our town or county that holds thousands of books for our borrowing pleasure, there are also those of us who are lucky enough to have a library right in our own homes; a bonus room that is often included in old homes – and in new construction.

The home library can essentially be whatever the homeowner desires it to be; a quiet retreat for reading, writing, and meditation; an office in which to accomplish work; or a family gathering placed where games can be played and stories read without the interference of television. But no matter what homeowners choose to get from their home library, the décor that they choose will be what ultimately defines the space.

To that end, homeowners make a variety of choices regarding flooring, wall color, furniture, and artwork they wish to include in the room – all with the goal of creating a palette that essentially allows the library to serve its purpose. Part of the process of decorating this space is choosing those items – no matter how small they may seem – that will speak to the overall design theme and offer punches of personality. Clocks, while they may be the very last thing that home decorators may consider in terms of decorative items, can bring color, vibrancy, and personality to a home library from wherever they sit in a room.

Wall clocks above shelves of books, a mantel clock perched atop furniture such as an office desk, and even a grandmother or grandfather clock in the corner can have vast impact on the overall atmosphere and personality of a home library.

Clocks Make Sense On The Road

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

There are a great many of us for who travel is a necessary part of our jobs; far away sales meetings, gatherings with clients and vendors, and global operations have all required company employees – in all industries – to be far more flexible than ever. No longer is our job description solely confined to a desk; now, more than ever, most of us live in a virtual world where we are required to get up and go.

This travel, of course, can be extremely exciting and certainly rewarding. But it can also be tiring and lonely being far from home all the time. In many of these cases, traveling business people choose to bring along with them those small items that remind them of home and offer some level of consistency in an ever changing environment. To this end, some people who travel choose to bring along with them photographs of loved ones, a favorite pillow that allows them sleep more comfortably, and even a small clock that they can sit on their nightstand – a constant reminder of home and certainly a more reliable way to wake up in the morning than the inconsistent hotel alarm clocks.

Clocks that make great travel companions include small mantel clocks – portable clocks that can sit anywhere, are small enough to carry in luggage, and add character and personality to even the plainest of hotel rooms; and atomic clocks – including those alarm clocks that we would ordinarily sit on our nightstand at home.

With the taking of clocks along with us in our travels, we are offered a constant on the road – a friend and companion on which we can rely.

Clocks Make Perfect Companions in Hospitals

Friday, April 25th, 2008

No one likes to be in the hospital – that much is a given. But there are, unfortunately, times in our lives when we may find ourselves hospitalized for a short – or even extended – period of time. Some of these events are anticipated, such as with the birth of a baby or an elective surgery; other events are not, and we find ourselves out of our element and thrust into a world where nothing is familiar or comfortable.

During any length of stay in a hospital it helps to have something along that is a reminder of a home – a small item that is familiar to us. While they may not be the first thing to come to people’s minds, clocks can be the perfect companion for those staying in a hospital.

Small radio/alarm clocks, for instance, can offer a number of resources for those confined to a hospital room. For one, most digital clocks allow the time of day to be seen brightly even when it’s dark in the room. This can be both helpful and comforting to those staying in a hospital room – as they may awaken (or be awoken as is often the case) to a room with which they are unfamiliar, and they may become disoriented as a result.

A small clock from home quickly offers an establishing element in the room – something familiar – that tells the time with unblinking constancy. Further still, radio clocks allow hospital patients something to do in terms of passing the time. Listening to the radio can help remove them from their current situation and (with earphones) can help drown out the noise typical in a hospital at night.

Clocks on a Wedding Registry

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Preparing for a wedding is an exciting and wonderful time in any couple’s life, as they make arrangements for one of the biggest days that they will likely celebrate with family and friends. There are many customs associated with wedding preparation, not the least of which is the organization of a bridal shower during which the bride (and by extension, her soon to be husband) are showered with gifts with which to set up their new home together.

The tradition has become – in recent years – for the couple to register for gifts at their favorite stores, choosing those items that are in line with their taste and personality. Everything from china settings and bedding to serving pieces and towels are included on a bridal registry – used by those attending the bridal shower or the wedding so that they can purchase gifts the couple will most enjoy.

The store roster in which wedding registries are available is growing and more and more couples are beginning to include more unique pieces in their registry. Clocks – that which may have been purchased by a homeowner themselves or handed down within a family – are beginning to make their way onto bridal registries in recent years as well.

Clocks are one of the most often overlooked wedding gifts; but in actuality they make the perfect gift. And recognizing that they are likely not make the purchase themselves any time in the immediate future, couples are asking on their bridal registry for those clocks that they would love to include in their homes.

Everything from wall clocks and mantel clocks are found on modern bridal registries; as are grandfather and grandmother clocks – beautiful wedding gifts that are cherished for a lifetime.

Clocks of any Color

Monday, April 21st, 2008

A clock is not always just a clock. Traditionally speaking, clocks were used as functional pieces rather than decorative items in our home; and so the design of most clocks was traditional as well – medium to dark woods, simple lines, and minimal accoutrements. Today, however, clocks come in a variety of materials, in a number of different colors, and with many different options of artwork.

The benefits, of course, of all of these options, are that consumers can use clocks in any capacity. More than just traditional mantel clocks used above a fireplace, grandfather clocks placed in the corner of a dining room or entranceway, or wall clocks placed in a kitchen, there are many different options for the use of clocks.

Clocks in more casual colors and made from less formal woods can be used to brighten a kitchen, add a punch of personality in a family room, and a hint of sophistication in a living room. More than anything, clocks are design elements to which most people do not give much thought. But the truth is that with a well chosen clock in a room with any kind of décor can really make the difference between a plain room and one that has an interesting and multidimensional design.

Consider using unique clocks:

*In a family room where you can incorporate lighter woods and a more modern design.

*In a kitchen where you can explore creative colors and artwork.

*In a bedroom where you can really go all out in expressing yourself.

Mantel Clocks Set a Room Apart

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Mantel clocks – as their name suggests – are often seen on the mantels above fireplaces; decorative elements that can frame a fireplace of any style – traditional or contemporary. But because mantel clocks are portable, they can be used in a variety of rooms and in a variety of locations. The uniting factor no matter where mantel clocks are used is the fact that they have the ability to set the tone of a room and really draw attention to the design elements – giving the room, and the home in which that room is, cohesiveness.

The next time you are looking for options on where to use mantel clocks, give the following locations some thought:

*A bookshelf in a study or library. Bookshelves are beautiful pieces of furniture that can really add elegance to any room. For those of us lucky enough to have libraries under our roofs, we look for different methods by which to decorate those rooms with style and sophistication. A well chosen mantel clock – in the decorative style of the room itself – can give the eye a focal point when entering a home library or study.

*An occasional table in a family room. Many of us often buy furniture pieces to place within our family rooms as a way to give the rooms some decorative flow. A mantel clock set atop an antique table or a sleek wood telephone table can add some punch to the décor.

*A shelf in a kitchen. A mantel clock – while traditionally seen in family and living rooms – can also round out the design of a kitchen, especially those mantel clocks with brighter colors and more casual designs.

The Importance of Clocks in Waiting Rooms

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

We’ve all been there – sitting amongst dozens of other people in a packed waiting room, waiting for an appointment of any variety; a doctor appointment, medical testing of any kind, even a salon or spa appointment. What holds true in all of these scenarios is the dependence on time; we all look to our cell phones to watch the minutes pass, waiting for our turn to finally be called from the waiting room.

In cases such as this, clocks can be enormously helpful. Wall clocks are those clocks that are most often found on the walls of waiting rooms – their round faces telling patrons and patients the time as it passes minute by minute. Even hospital rooms – bare and impersonal as they may be – are likely to contain two common elements – a television and a wall clock.

For those just opening a practice or starting a business, there are many decisions to be made regarding décor and functional items. Part of what should be considered is the inclusion of a clock – or even several clocks – in the waiting room. While a wall clock is the traditional method for telling time in waiting rooms, there are certainly other options especially when it comes to outfitting a more upscale waiting environment such as those waiting rooms found in salons and spas.

In these particular areas owners can feel free to be far more creative when it comes to choosing clocks that fit the décor of the room. Mantel clocks set atop a decorative piece of furniture, cocktail table, or reception desk can set the tone of the room. Further, a grandfather clock or grandmother clock set in the corner of a waiting area can add a sense of sophistication to the overall décor. More than anything, guests will be able to know the time at a glance – a convenience that should be offered in such situations.

Clocks: An Affordable Design Option for Every Home

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

When it comes to design – it is the challenge of most homeowners or renters to seek out those elements that will give them the most bang for their buck. After all, we are looking for ways to decorate our homes affordably; not everyone can afford the high end furniture and the décor elements offered to us through interior designers. Thankfully, with the help of the Internet – that gives us immediate access to all of the products we could ever hope to find – and the robust offerings of do-it-yourself design shows that have become such a staple on our televisions, we are able to go about creating effective – as well as affordable – design plans that work for our homes.

More than just the color on our walls, more than just the furniture we place in our rooms, home design really comes down to the small things – the details that offer glimpses into our personalities; that is what ultimately makes a house a home. Clocks – something that are often thought of as simply a way to tell the time – can actually have an enormous impact on the overall décor of a room, and even an entire home.

Clocks are timekeeping devices that are counted among the oldest existing human inventions. But today we honor the history of clocks by designing and creating clocks of many different varieties. Certainly there are traditionally designed clocks – everything from wall clocks to grandfather clocks and everything in between. But modern clockmakers have also been able to create more contemporary clock designs to fit into the modern landscape.

Regardless of whether you choose a traditional style clock or a more sleekly designed contemporary clock, homeowners will find that clocks of any kind are an affordable option for home design.

Clocks Make all the Difference in Detailed Decorating

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

When it comes to decorating a home, most homeowners look to the larger elements in order to pull their design together; elements such as paint, flooring, and furniture that can clearly define a room – and a home at large. But the truth is that as impactful as these elements are in decorating a home, the real power is in the details; the smaller pieces that you may not notice right away but that make a statement nonetheless – like what a well chosen accessory or great pair of shoes can do for our outfit.

When it comes to the decoration of our homes one of the greatest accessories can be a wonderful clock put in one or several rooms. Clocks come in a variety of styles and in an array of designs – well suited for homes with every décor. Used as an addition to an already established decorating theme, clocks can really pack a punch in terms of pulling it all together. Consider using clocks in a variety of ways when you decorate your home, including:

*A kitchen that has been recently remodeled in a country farmhouse style will be served well by a traditional or country style wall clock.

*A formal living room that has been outfitted with traditional furniture can easily handle a beautiful grandfather clock or grandmother clock created in an antique style.

*A family room where friends and family gather around a modern fireplace would be a great place to put a contemporary styled mantel clock.

When you are looking for wonderful accessories to help further the design chosen for your home, don’t overlook the power of clocks.

Clocks Shipped Right to Your Door

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

The Internet has certainly changed the way in which we do our shopping. Now more than ever, consumers have access to an enormous variety of products and services; all of which are theirs for the taking with just the touch of a few buttons. Even larger items, such as clocks, can be found online through comprehensive websites such 1-800-4CLOCKS where they can be browsed, purchased, and shipped straight to our door.

Through reputable online suppliers such as 1-800-4CLOCKS consumers have access to a variety of clocks such as:

*Wall Clocks – Walls clocks are created in a variety of styles; from simple round faced clocks to those designed to look like miniature grandfather clocks. Hung in hallways, entranceways, and in any room in the home – from kitchens to living rooms – wall clocks, in many cases, are much like pieces of art hung on our walls.

*Mantel Clocks – Nothing is more inviting than a fireplace. And adding décor to the mantel above the fireplace becomes something of an art form in and of itself. Mantel clocks are the perfect way to showcase a fireplace and really set the mood in a room.

*Grandfather Clocks – Not every room – or home for that matter – can handle the size and “personality” of a grandfather clock. They anchor a room, create an unrivalled statement, and often become the most cherished of our family heirlooms. For those rooms that require a little less in terms of size, there are grandmother clocks – just as statuesque but smaller in scale.

*Atomic Clocks – At home on desks, nightstands, and in more casual environments, atomic clocks add a personality all their own. Who says that bedrooms and offices don’t deserve their own brand of flair? Atomic clocks can offer the perfect accessory for smaller rooms.
