There are those things decoratively speaking that we turn to without giving them too much thought; those tried and true pieces of décor that we know will work for us in whatever room in the home that we want to put them. Clocks have long been the answer to many of our decorative questions and because they are so affordable and quite portable they are more than easy to use in a variety of circumstances. But because they are so tried, true, and reliable, clocks tend to be used in the most traditional of ways. We purchase traditionally styled clocks, sit mantel clocks on the mantels atop fireplaces, and hang wall clocks in exactly the spots that would be expected of us.
But the truth is that the true test of the ability of the clock in any capacity is just how versatile they can be in a variety of rooms and in a variety of circumstances. Consider the following:
* Mantel clocks are portable and can be placed anywhere – not just on a mantel. Consider using mantel clocks in bedrooms, on countertops in kitchens, on shelves in a library or office, and in a variety of other places that need a little something extra.
* Think creatively when it comes to placing wall clocks. It is not absolutely necessary to hang wall clocks in an entryway or in a family room (some of the more common areas for hanging wall clocks). Think outside the box and place your wall clock in a more interesting area of the home – a place where it wouldn’t normally be expected.
* Traditional is great but not mandatory. The beauty of the modern clockmaker is that they have found a way to deliver the same high quality they have provided for generations and to do so in a way that still caters to the modern taste. There are a multitude of clocks that are more contemporary in design and even make use of some unusual materials.

There are many ways in which we go about getting the most for our money. In fact, we as a society have become highly skilled at finding the best at budget prices; the economy has forced us to make some tough decisions and to go about the things that we do in perhaps a different way. Home design is one of the areas in which we labor to get the most for our money; by shopping around and looking for pieces that may be small and inexpensive but are still visually impactful.
One of the pieces that shine in this regard again and again is clocks. Found through a variety of online suppliers, clocks are often inexpensive but still visually powerful enough to help further a design scheme in a room or an entire home. These online resources allow consumers to shop from the comfort of their home and compare and contrast the different styles and prices of clocks available to them, including:
* Wall clocks – Wall clocks can be hung in any room of the home and add instant sophistication and glamour. Because they are hung on the wall they do not take up any floor space and are therefore often quite a solid choice for those with smaller spaces to decorate. Additionally, for those who enjoy the look and sound of a grandfather clock but don’t have the room to dedicate to such a piece, wall clocks are able to somewhat mimic the look of the grandfather or grandmother clock. Wall clocks, like all modern clocks, can be found in virtually any style including traditional and contemporary.
* Mantel clocks – Mantel clocks are perfect pieces for home decorating because they are small, affordable, and portable. Homeowners or renters can move mantel clocks around to use them in different areas of the home where they may work best.

The recreation room – or rec room, as it is more commonly referred to – in a home is traditionally the place in which family and friends gather to relax, have conversation, watch television, and play games. It may be the room in the home in which the family chooses to place a pool table or ping pong table, or the room in the home in which the family chooses to create a home theatre where visitors can watch the latest movie release on a large screen and with professional type home theatre audio. No matter how a rec room is utilized, however, it should ultimately be a place that encompasses all the things that mean the most to the home’s family; those things that will allow them to relax and be comfortable.
Decorating a rec room, therefore, often becomes about pulling in those design elements that most reflect the collective personality of the family in question. This can be extended to all things in the room including the paint that goes on the wall, the furniture that is selected, and the artwork that is displayed. One of the things that many people choose to use in their rec room – as part wall art, part design accessories – is the clock. After all, clocks can now be purchased in a variety of designs and styles – all of which can easily integrate into the rec room design theme.
Consider a fun and funky wall clock on the wall of a rec room that tells the time but is fun to look at and is more casual in design; an interesting mantel clock or atomic clock that sits on a shelf or table; or perhaps even a grandmother clock that takes up a corner and plays a fun melody at the turning of the hour.

We are always looking for ways in which tackle our home design and ultimately make our home something that rises up to meet us when we walk in the front door at the end of the day. Our home should be a reflection of everything that we are and everything that means something special to us; the way in which we utilize paint and texture and pieces of furniture should all work towards the goal of creating something that reflects our personality.
Interior design is not an exact science; it is a form of art and self-expression. Some homeowners turn to interior design professionals to help them realize their home design goals. But ultimately it is our own needs and desires that must be realized – our own personal design ideas. And to this end, we must infuse our homes with those things that mean the most to us.
Clocks have become more and more a part of interior design concepts as homeowners and renters alike look to clocks to help them make a plain room something truly special. Consider those who are renting their properties and cannot make any real structural changes to the home but still want to make it something that is all about them. By placing different types of clocks in various rooms in the home – mantel clocks, wall clocks, and even a grandfather or grandmother clock – we can make each room something that is unique and something that means something to us.
For homeowners, as well, the use of clocks can become a part of the overall design process in making a home something that is special and wonderful.

Having fun with home décor is not something that many homeowners think to do. In fact, decorating a home has become some serious business as homeowners are treated to a plethora of media on the subject; through television, magazines, and the Internet we are taught to not only pick the right color paint but also engage in faux painting techniques, renovate old pieces of furniture so they are new pieces we can use that are functional and full of character, and even perform minimally invasive construction on areas in our home that need some updating.
This is all serious business. And do-it-yourselfers work diligently to not only create the look that they want but also to save the thousands of dollars that have been promised to them in savings if they pick up the tools themselves. So connected are we to the process of making our homes look great that we often fail to engage on the pleasurable level of making our homes look great. After all, it’s supposed to be fun – choosing fabrics, colors, and furniture pieces; all of the details that will ultimately make our home exactly what we want.
Decorating a home after all the elbow grease has been expended is often the most fun of all; and this is where clocks can certainly come into play. Having fun with clocks allows homeowners to put their own stamp of personality into each room.
Choosing a clock does not necessarily mean choosing a traditional clock design – the kind perhaps that we would have seen in the homes of some of our older relatives. Modern clock designs, as created by some of the top clock designers in the world, are anything but conventional. There are many designs from which consumers can choose – anything from contemporary to downright different.

Antique clocks are beautiful to look at but in many instances they just don’t deliver in terms of functionality. I once ran across a beautiful antique clock at an estate sale and I purchased it on the spot. I loved the way it looked but I was never able to bring it back in terms of functioning properly. Because it didn’t actually tell the time, the uniqueness of the clock was somewhat minimized; it almost looked plastic because the hands didn’t move and before long I just took it out of the room in which I had placed it, opting instead for something that still had life within it.
I was able to find this amazing website that allowed me to find all of the clock styles with which I was enamored but with modern functionality that would allow me to always have a working clock in the room that I had chosen
I began with a wall clock in the family room; a miniature looking grandfather clock that hung on the wall above the couch. While this is normally a more traditional design, I chose a wall clock that was more modern in design – made from lighter woods and utilizing wrought iron parts that made it a more contemporary fixture in the room.
In the living room I choose a grandmother clock as I did not have quite the ceiling height to pull off the use of a grandfather clock. I chose a more traditional styled grandmother clock with ornate carvings and traditional wood. It plays a beautiful melody every hour on the hour.
Above the fireplace I replaced the antique mantel clock with a clock that looks similar in design but has a modern technology. Now the room comes to life with the ticking of a beautiful clock – that looks beautiful and works perfectly.

When I was cleaning out my grandparents’ house after their deaths I discovered that they seemed to have a real penchant for clocks. There were mantel clocks, wall clocks, and even two grandfather clocks that of course I had know where there, but to which I had scarcely paid any attention.
This got me to thinking about the role of the clock in the home. Certainly when people first began buying clocks for use in their homes there were considered luxury items because of their price; but they also served a purpose. There was no getting the time from the television, by a glance at a cell phone, by a computer screen; the clocks that were in our home were there for a number of reasons, not the least of which was telling us the time.
Today, of course, the need for clocks as a real functional item in the home has decreased drastically. With all the technology at our fingertips it is no longer necessary to have clocks for the sheer purpose of function. But yet they continue to be a fixture in the American home – not just for their functional purposes which have become rather secondary in the modern home but more so for the style they bring to a room.
The modern clock retailer makes this shift perfectly clear as clocks of all kinds – in all styles and made from all materials – can be purchased online; accessories to support the décor of a particular room or of a home at large.

Soon-to-be college freshman all across the country are beginning their preparation for their first year of college. It may be July but many colleges and universities begin their fall semester as early as August and it will soon be time for college students to take up residence in dormitories and apartments nationwide. There is of course the registering for classes and the purchasing of books that is all mandatory protocol for this particular time period but there is also the setting up of shop in what is essentially a new home. And to this end, college students begin early to collect those things that will make them the most comfortable in their new living arrangement.
From bedding to basic kitchen utensils, there isn’t much that doesn’t go along for the ride for the college freshman. They, after all, will most likely be away from home for the first time in their life and they want to be as comfortable as possible. To this end, they may bring a favorite pillow, their most comfortable sheets, special accessories that mean the most to them, and perhaps a favorite clock that reminds them of home.
Clocks in fact can serve a college student well on a number of levels. For one, the college experience marks the first time for many young people that they are fully and completely responsible for their own schedule. This means that they must wake up on time to attend classes and a clock is absolutely essential in this role.
Secondly, a special clock from home can make a college student feel more comfortable and not so far away. And for those looking for the perfect gift to give that new college student, consider an interesting atomic clock that is both fun and functional.

I was on this amazing website the other day – a website that allowed me to search out any and all types of clocks in which I might be interested. This experience single-handled changed the way in which I was renovating my home. Instead of walking through large, impersonal home goods stores I was able to browse through a high-end selection of clocks of all kinds, sizes, and prices – all from the comfort of my home.
Home renovation is a stressful experience; anyone who has been through it will surely attest to this fact. The stress and the spending often serve to wear down even the most steadfast of home renovators and before long they are making rash decisions simply to be done with it. It takes the fight out of you; and it for sure takes the energy out of you. When you are already feeling mentally and physically exhausted the last thing you feel like doing is walking through store after store in search of the perfect pieces to put in your home.
Shopping online has transformed the way in which we can go about completing our home renovations. Websites such as 1-800-4CLOCKS brings the shopping experience to us rather than the other way around; and this is truly a gift for those of us who could use a break and a chance to shop at our own pace. Through 1-800-4CLOCKS browsers can find everything from mantel clocks and wall clocks to grandfather clocks and atomic clocks – in all styles (traditional to contemporary) and at all price points.
Renovations can be exhausting but don’t let it beat you until you choose things for your home that are not a reflection of who you are. Shop online, trust your judgment, and take your time!

I recently bought a home and have been slowly trying to put my stamp of personality on each of the rooms; not an easy feat when you’re light in the wallet after all the expenses of a purchase and move. And I’m not long on time either considering my work schedule. But I’ve done what I can to transform the rooms in my home into something that truly say something about who I am as a person – and as a homeowner.
Let me say that the rooms are wonderful to begin with; it’s an older home so each room is filled with nooks and crannies that are truly something special. But with the paint, accessories, furniture, and artwork that I’ve been adding, the rooms have been ramped up to unique and, in some cases, spectacular.
One of the things that I’m doing to make sure that each of the rooms in my home is truly something special is placing a very special piece in each space. In the kitchen, I placed some antique kitchen tools on a shelf that I found in an antique store; in the living room I put a mantel clock above the fireplace – a clock that I found through a great website – and that looks almost exactly like the clock that used to be in my grandparents’ home in the country. It makes me feel closer to them and it’s a special piece that really transforms the room from “nice” to special.
In fact, there are a great many clocks on the website that I found; clocks that will be perfect in a variety of rooms in my new home. I’m considering a wall clock for my family room and perhaps even a grandmother clock for the library I’m putting together in the front of the house.
I’ve found that with a little bit of imagination and, of course, some hard work, a home can be transformed one room at a time.
