MY DAD does not have bad taste in restaurants—far from it. But even he will admit he’s a little old fashioned. He likes his dining rooms quiet and the service leisurely. The response to his order of a gimlet should be, “Yes, of course,” not a series of follow-up questions about newfangled brands of gin.
