PARIS PEAKS IN MAY, some say. The gloomy weather lets up, and you might even catch a Parisian smiling. I couldn’t make it to France this spring, so I made do by diving into a book on the work of Claude Monet (1840-1926), the quintessential French impressionist who made even lumpy haystacks seem sublime.
