WHEN COSTUME DESIGNER Mark Bridges began working on “Phantom Thread,” director Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, about a fictional 1950s British couturier, he needed to brush up on London’s haberdashery heritage. Fortunately, Mr. Bridges had an eager tour guide at his disposal: the film’s star Daniel Day-Lewis. “Daniel knew this world, he knew where to go,” said Mr. Bridges, when we spoke a few weeks before the film’s Dec. 25 release, “We were picking shoes at George Cleverley, going hat shopping, looking for pajamas, it was just really fun.”
