Mr. McDermott said he bought the Jupiter Island home from Mr. Jackson in 2012 for $10.45 million, plus an additional amount for its contents. Mr. McDermott said the house remains almost exactly as it was when Mr. Jackson lived there, with the country star’s furniture still in place. That even includes two white cars that were “color-coordinated to match the garage.”

Just as Mr. Jackson did, Mr. McDermott said he is willing to sell the home’s contents—maybe even the guitar that Mr. Jackson signed for him. The furnishings aren’t included in the asking price. Mr. McDermott said he started listening to Mr. Jackson’s music after buying the house—his favorite song is “Remember When”—and the two men have gotten to know each other a bit. Mr. Jackson couldn’t be reached for comment.
Like nearby Palm Beach, Jupiter Island is a narrow barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean. The house sits on 1.2 acres spanning the island from the ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway; South Beach Road runs through the property. The ocean side of the property has a swimming pool, a putting green and a boardwalk leading to the beach. On the Intracoastal side there is a private dock, Mr. McDermott said, plus another sandy beach and a deck for watching the sunset. There is also a one-bedroom guesthouse.
Measuring about 9,600 square feet, the five-bedroom main house has an elevator, a home theater and a library with herringbone patterned walnut floors.
Mr. McDermott said he is selling because his job requires “a pretty intense travel schedule” and he doesn’t get to spend much time at the house. Although he considers this house to be his primary home, “my life is spent at 39,000 feet,” said Mr. McDermott, 56.
Mr. McDermott recently bought a vacant parcel of land on the Intracoastal in Palm Beach for $14.11 million. He views the Palm Beach purchase as an investment, he said, and while he may build a house on it at some point, he has no plans to do so right way.
